DESIGN CONCEPT: The design for NEXT is inspired by the elevated rail system that runs through the streets of Chicago. The “L tracks” run above ground, weaving through skyscrapers and city buildings to connect neighborhoods and allow the citizens of Chicago to get from point A to point B. This represents the work ethic of NEXT employees as they collaborate with one another and take clients on a journey from their first meeting to project completion. Representing the Elevated track, the 7th floor will house client and collaborative areas as well as recreational spaces such as a coffee shop for clients and NEXTers to stop on their commute. The 6th floor will reflect the city streets of Chicago, with a grid-like layout that allows workers to maneuver efficiently around the city loop. A circulation loop, clearly defined by corresponding colors and graphics inspired by the “L” map will assist with wayfinding and spatial organization in the office. Industrial materials reflective of the cityscape and train cars themselves along with architectural features within the space will add visual interest and reflect the sights one would see as they look out the window of a moving train car or look up at the tracks from below.
